What the Xeon E-2274G is

The Xeon E-2274G favors clock speed over core count with four cores and eight threads. It launched in May 2019 with a 4.0 GHz base and up to 4.9 GHz boost at 83 W. Intel aims it at CAD and financial modeling where single thread latency decides feel.

Eight megabytes of Smart Cache sit close to four fast cores for low latency access. The 4.0 GHz base is among the highest in Xeon E-2200, so interactive work rarely waits. Eight threads cover background tasks without adding many cores.

UHD Graphics P630 from 350 MHz to 1.2 GHz handles displays for trading desks and design review stations. The process is 14 nm and the multiplier is locked. ECC memory support keeps long calculations safe from bit flips.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The E-2274G fits LGA 1151 on revision 2 boards only. C246 boards pair ECC UDIMMs with display outputs for P630. Small form towers use it where a fast quad core with correction beats a larger chip.

Mid 2019 BIOS versions include E-2200 IDs. Early production may need an update. Revision 1 boards never boot it. The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide explains the generation split.

Single socket operation keeps latency low. There is no second socket, so scaling means more clocks or more cores on the same board.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

DDR4-2666 ECC UDIMMs in two channels up to 128 GB suit latency sensitive desks. Dual channel pairs feed four fast cores with ease. Choose low latency kits where the board manual lists them.

Sixteen Gen3 CPU lanes can hold a workstation GPU or fast storage when P630 covers basic displays. Many trading builds skip discrete graphics entirely and use integrated outputs for multiple monitors. Chipset lanes add the remaining I/O.

Cooling needs an 83 W capable tower despite only four cores, since high clocks concentrate heat. The 75 mm LGA 1151 pattern from the CPU cooler compatibility by socket guide applies. Good case exhaust matters more than cooler size alone.

Upgrade paths

On the same socket, the Intel Xeon E-2288G doubles cores to eight with graphics at 95 W for parallel work. The Intel Xeon E-2276G offers six cores at 80 W as a middle step. Both share C242 and C246 boards.

Consumer i3-9350KF reaches similar clocks without ECC or graphics for gaming. It lacks workstation correction.

Past LGA 1151 newer Xeon E generations need LGA 1200. The E-2274G covers clock-first desks where four fast cores with graphics and ECC must persist.
