Privacy Policy
This site is a static reference about CPU sockets. It has no accounts, no comment forms, no newsletters and no shop. It does not run analytics, advertising or tracking scripts of its own.
Contact: contact@socketgeek.com.
Short version
- The site itself stores nothing about you on its servers.
- Two small values stay in your own browser only: your light or dark theme choice, and your cookie consent choice. Both use
localStorage, not cookies sent to a server. - The hosting provider delivers the pages and, like any host, sees technical data needed for that delivery, such as IP addresses in server logs. See "Hosting and logs" below.
- If you email us, we get the contents of that email. That is the only personal data you can give us directly.
Data we hold
Data you send by email
If you write to contact@socketgeek.com, we receive your email address, the message text and any attachments. We use it only to read, answer and fix the reported issue. The legal basis under the GDPR is legitimate interest in running a correct reference site, and pre-contractual steps where you ask for a correction.
Data we do not collect
- No accounts or profiles.
- No search history stored on the server. Search runs in your browser against static files on this same site.
- No advertising identifiers and no cross-site tracking.
- No location data beyond what the network itself reveals to the host for delivery.
Hosting and logs
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages as static files. When you open a page, Cloudflare processes the request to send the file and to protect the site from abuse. This typically includes the requested address, date and time, transferred volume, and the IP address and user agent sent by your browser. We do not control the exact log format and we do not combine these logs with other data. The legal basis is legitimate interest in a working and secure site.
Cloudflare may process this technical data on servers outside your country, including outside the EU. Cloudflare publishes its own data processing terms. We keep no copy of these server logs ourselves.
Cookies and local storage
The site sets no tracking cookies and no advertising cookies. It also sets no functional cookies of its own.
It keeps two entries in your browser localStorage, which never leave your device:
| Entry | Purpose | Kept until |
|---|---|---|
Theme choice (theme) | Remembers light or dark mode | You clear site data or change it |
Consent choice (cookie-consent) | Remembers your answer to the cookie prompt | You clear site data or change it |
You can delete both at any time in the browser settings for site data. The Cookie Policy at Cookie Policy explains this in plain terms and how to change a past choice.
If analytics or other optional scripts are added in the future, they will stay off until you accept them in the cookie prompt, and this policy will be updated first.
Legal bases (GDPR)
- Hosting and security logs: legitimate interest in providing and protecting the site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Email correspondence: legitimate interest in handling corrections and questions, plus steps taken at your request before any contract (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR).
- Optional cookies or scripts, if ever added: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Refusing has no effect on reading the site.
Sharing
We do not sell personal data and we do not share email contents with advertisers or data brokers. Emails are read only by the people who maintain the site. Hosting traffic passes through Cloudflare as described above. A disclosure can also happen where the law orders it.
Retention
- Emails are kept only as long as needed to handle the report and to show that a correction had a source. Most threads are deleted within 12 months after the case is closed.
- Browser storage entries have no fixed expiry and are under your control; deleting site data removes them at once.
- Server logs, if any copy reaches us, are not stored by us beyond normal host retention.
Your rights
If you are in the EU or EEA, you have the right to access, correct, delete, limit and port the personal data held about you, and to object to processing based on legitimate interest. You also have the right to withdraw consent where consent was the basis, with effect for the future. To use any of these rights, write to contact@socketgeek.com. We answer within one month.
You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. A list of EU authorities is published by the European Data Protection Board.
Children
The pages are general technical reference. They are not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child sent us personal data by email, write to the address above and we will delete the message.
Changes to this policy
If the site starts to use analytics, fonts from other hosts, or any other service that processes personal data, this policy will be updated before the change goes live, and the "updated" date at the top of the source will change. The current version is always at /privacy/.
Controller
The site is run as an independent project. For data protection questions the controller contact is contact@socketgeek.com. Include the word "Privacy" in the subject line so the message reaches the right person.
