What the Nano L2200 is

The VIA Nano L2200 is a 1.6 GHz single core from May 29, 2008. It runs one Isaiah core at 1.6 GHz with no turbo, so 1 core gives 1 thread. Cache is 64 KB data plus 64 KB instruction L1 with 1 MB of exclusive L2 on a 65 nm process. Power is rated at 17 W on NanoBGA2.

The L2200 covers mainstream small desktops and notebooks with an 8x multiplier on an 800 MHz V4 bus. Idle power drops to 200 mW. It exists because VIA wanted Isaiah performance per watt in mains-powered small systems without the 25 W envelope of the L2100. The chip is soldered and cannot be replaced.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The L2200 ships soldered on NanoBGA2 boards with a VIA companion chipset, pin-compatible with VIA C7 boards for OEM transitions. There is no socket upgrade and no board swap without replacing the whole device. The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide covers pairing rules.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

Memory is DDR2 through the board chipset.

An 800 MHz VIA V4 bus ties the CPU to the companion chipset. Expansion hangs off the chipset.

Cooling is the device maker heat spreader for the 17 W envelope, with PowerSaver trimming draw to 200 mW at idle.

Upgrade paths

On NanoBGA2 there is no CPU upgrade path because the chip is soldered, so a faster board means replacing the whole device. The VIA Nano L2100 at 1.8 GHz is the fastest Nano 2000 part for device makers, and the VIA Nano U2500 at 1.2 GHz covers fanless designs.

Frequently asked questions

What socket does the Nano L2200 use?
