Socket 495 socket: CPUs, chipsets and cooler fit
Socket 495 is the Intel micro pin grid array socket that carried Mobile Pentium III Coppermine processors in removable packages. It uses 495 pins in a micro-PGA2 layout with a 100 MT/s front side bus and SpeedStep support.

Overview
The socket served full-size and thin laptops from late 1999 to 2001 with 256 KB Advanced Transfer Cache parts from 400 MHz to 1000 MHz. Soldered counterparts with the same silicon shipped as BGA2 for thinner boards.

| Coppermine | Mobile Pentium III Coppermine | 1999 to 2001 | 180 nm single cores with 256 KB of L2 cache on a 100 MT/s bus, including the 900 MHz part and the 1000 MHz part at 25 W from March 2001. |
Who Socket 495 serves
Socket 495 targets full-size Centrino-era predecessors with removable mobile chips. Laptops with 440BX, 440MX and 815E chipsets pair the socket with SDRAM and AGP graphics. Vendor heat pipes carry the 25 W envelope.
Memory and cooling
Memory is SDRAM through the laptop chipset at the 100 MT/s bus rate. Cooling uses the vendor heat pipe for the exact chassis with SpeedStep tables for battery and performance modes. Replacement pipes come from the laptop maker.

Frequently asked questions
Which processors fit Socket 495?
Coppermine Mobile Pentium III single cores with 256 KB of L2 cache on a 100 MT/s bus, including the 900 MHz part and the 1000 MHz part at 25 W from March 2001 covered here.
Is Socket 495 the same as Micro-BGA2?
No. Socket 495 is a 495-pin micro-PGA socket with removable chips, while Micro-BGA2 is a 495-ball soldered package. The chips share electrical concepts but only Socket 495 allows replacement. Boards are built for one or the other.
What memory does Socket 495 use?
SDRAM through the board chipset, commonly PC100 pairs for 100 MT/s mobile parts. The exact type depends on the laptop board.
How many PCIe lanes does Socket 495 provide?
No lanes come from these CPUs. A 100 MT/s bus ties the CPU to the board chipset, while AGP and PCI hang off the chipset.
