LGA 1567 socket: CPUs, chipsets and cooler fit
LGA 1567, also called Socket LS, is the Intel server socket for high end multiprocessor systems. It carries 1,567 contacts for land grid array chips. Intel introduced it in March 2010 with the Nehalem-EX Xeon 7500 series, and reused it in April 2011 for the Westmere-EX Xeon E7-2800, 4800 and 8800 families.

Overview
The socket scales from two sockets with E7-2800 parts through four with E7-4800 to eight with E7-8800 on boards with the Intel 7500 Boxboro chipset. Memory uses buffered DDR3 with ECC across four channels per socket, which suits large databases with terabytes of RAM. CPUs connect over QuickPath Interconnect, and PCIe comes from the chipset rather than the processor.
LGA 1567 was superseded by LGA 2011-1 for Haswell-EX with DDR4 memory. Because the sockets are physically incompatible, heatsinks, boards and chips do not cross between them. Working LGA 1567 systems are used data center stock.

Socketed server package
LGA 1567 uses a 1,567-contact land grid array socket with a high load independent loading mechanism. The processor package measures about 56 by 49 mm including the heat spreader and seats under a server ILM with M3 screws. This differs from desktop sockets with plastic push pin mounts.
In practice compatibility depends on the board scale and the BIOS age. E7-2800 parts fit two socket boards, E7-4800 fits four, and E7-8800 fits eight, with some overlap where the maker lists both strings. A board that lists the exact model is the safe choice.
Memory and I/O
LGA 1567 designs use buffered DDR3 with ECC across four channels per socket, commonly at 800 or 1066 MT/s. Population rules are strict: fill risers in matched sets per the board manual, and expect lower speeds with more ranks per channel. Large boards reach 1 TB and beyond with all sockets filled.
CPUs connect over QuickPath Interconnect at up to 6.4 GT/s, while PCIe comes from the 7500 chipset for network and storage. The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide covers Intel pairing rules.
Platform lifecycle
LGA 1567 covers Nehalem-EX from March 2010 and Westmere-EX from April 2011. Intel moved large multiprocessor systems to LGA 2011-1 for Haswell-EX in 2014 with DDR4 memory. No new LGA 1567 parts followed, so boards and chips are used data center stock.
For a running system the useful work is maintenance: clean filters and fans, confirm ECC logs stay clear, and keep storage healthy. A platform move means a new server generation. The How to find your CPU socket type guide explains how to confirm the socket before ordering parts.

Frequently asked questions
Which processors fit LGA 1567?
Nehalem-EX Xeon 7500 parts such as the X7560 and Westmere-EX Xeon E7 parts such as the E7-2850, E7-4807 and E7-8870. E7-2800 fits two socket boards, E7-4800 fits four, and E7-8800 fits eight.
Is LGA 1567 the same as LGA 2011-1?
No. LGA 1567 carries Nehalem-EX and Westmere-EX with buffered memory. LGA 2011-1 on LGA 2011-1 carries Haswell-EX and Broadwell-EX. The sockets are physically incompatible.
What memory does LGA 1567 use?
DDR3 with ECC and buffering, four channels per socket, with board totals to 1 TB and more on eight socket systems. Speeds run 800 to 1066 MT/s depending on the processor and population.
Can a Xeon E7 v2 fit LGA 1567?
No. Sockets differ in pin count and keying, and each generation needs its own board and firmware.
Do E7-8800 parts work in smaller boards?
Yes, where the board maker lists both strings. E7-8800 parts lead eight socket systems, while the same silicon as E7-2800 or E7-4800 fits smaller boards.
