BGA 1667 socket: CPUs, chipsets and cooler fit
BGA 1667 is Intel ball grid array package with 1667 contacts in a 37.5 × 37.5 mm footprint. It solders directly to server boards and carries Broadwell Xeon D SoCs with cores, memory controllers, PCIe and network blocks in one chip. Intel lists the package as FCBGA1667 in its specification pages.

Overview
The package arrived with Xeon D-1500 in 2015 to 2016 for dense edge and storage nodes. D-1577 brings 16 cores and 32 threads at 1.3 GHz base and up to 2.1 GHz boost with 24 MB cache at 45 W. The SoC integrates 10 Gb paths and SATA so boards run with few extra chips.
Memory covers DDR4 and DDR3L with ECC in two channels for reliable nodes. PCIe runs at version 3.0 with CPU lanes for NVMe and HBAs plus chipset class I/O for SATA and USB. Because the chip is soldered, core count and I/O are fixed at board purchase.

Who BGA 1667 serves
BGA 1667 belongs in micro servers, storage heads and network appliances where 45 W with 16 cores matters. D-1577 nodes pack virtual guests and containers with ECC memory. Lower core D-1500 parts suit gateways where power budgets are tighter.
Boards mount the SoC under a vendor heatsink with front to back airflow, so service follows the server manual. Nodes boot standard UEFI and Linux builds for x86-64, with VT-x and VT-d for virtual guests. Remote management rides on board BMC rather than desktop tools.
Memory and PCIe
Memory support covers DDR4 RDIMM and SODIMM options with ECC for data safety. DDR4 at 2133 MT/s lifts file throughput over DDR3L at 1600 MT/s. Start with 64 GB for virtual hosts.
PCIe arrives as version 3.0 with CPU lanes for NVMe and HBAs, plus SATA 6 Gb/s and USB from SoC I/O. Integrated LAN cuts a NIC slot in many builds. Gen4 cards run at Gen3 speed here, which still covers edge traffic.
Identification is simple in Intel documents: sockets supported reads FCBGA1667 and package size reads 37.5 mm x 37.5 mm. That line separates BGA 1667 from LGA 2011-v3 desktops at 52.5 mm x 45 mm and from BGA 4368 server parts at a larger count. The How to find your CPU socket type guide shows where to find the socket line.
