What the Pentium P6200 is

The Intel Pentium P6200 is a dual core Arrandale mobile processor that Intel launched in September 2010. It runs two Westmere cores at 2.133 GHz with no turbo and no Hyper-Threading, so 2 cores give 2 threads. Each core carries 256 KB of L2 cache with 3 MB of shared L3 cache. Power is rated at 35 W on a 32 nm CPU die with a 45 nm graphics die.

The P6200 is the fastest Pentium Arrandale in this batch, about 130 MHz above the P6100. HD Graphics at 500 MHz with 667 MHz burst cover office displays with two display support. Against Core i3 parts at similar clocks it trails in threaded work because Hyper-Threading is absent.

Memory is DDR3 in two channels up to 8 GB.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The Pentium P6200 fits Socket G1 with 988 pins. HM55 class boards boot it directly with a late 2010 BIOS.

The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide covers pairing rules, and the Intel Pentium P6300 page shows the successor Pentium on the same socket.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

Memory is DDR3-1066 in two channels up to 8 GB.

PCIe 2.0 x16 comes from the package.

Cooling uses the vendor heat pipe assembly rated for 35 W.

Upgrade paths

On Socket G1 the upgrade is a Core i3 or i5 with Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost. Beyond Socket G1 a move to Sandy Bridge needs a new notebook.

Frequently asked questions
