What the Pentium P6100 is
The Intel Pentium P6100 is a dual core Arrandale mobile processor that Intel launched in September 2010. It runs two Westmere cores at 2.0 GHz with no turbo and no Hyper-Threading, so 2 cores give 2 threads. Each core carries 256 KB of L2 cache with 3 MB of shared L3 cache. Power is rated at 35 W.
The P6100 adds about 120 MHz over the P6000 at the same 35 W. Against the P6200 it trails by about 130 MHz. HD Graphics cover office displays on HM55 boards.
Memory is DDR3 in two channels up to 8 GB.
Socket and motherboard compatibility
The Pentium P6100 fits Socket G1 with 988 pins. HM55 class boards boot Arrandale directly with a listed BIOS.
The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide covers pairing rules, and the Intel Pentium P6300 page shows a later Pentium on the same socket.
Memory, PCIe and cooling
Memory is DDR3-1066 in two channels up to 8 GB.
PCIe 2.0 x16 comes from the package.
Cooling uses the vendor heat pipe assembly rated for 35 W.
Upgrade paths
On Socket G1 the upgrade is a P6200 or a Core i3 with Hyper-Threading. Beyond Socket G1 a move to Sandy Bridge needs a new notebook.
Frequently asked questions
