What the Pentium G645 is

Intel Pentium G645 is a dual core Sandy Bridge desktop processor that Intel released in September 2012 as a late speed bump for office towers. It runs at a fixed 2.9 GHz with no turbo, which is 100 MHz above the G640 from June. Cache is 3 MB Intel Smart Cache, with 2 threads from two cores. Power is rated at 65 W on a 32 nm process.

Graphics are Intel HD Graphics for 2nd Gen at 850 MHz to 1100 MHz. The block covers office monitors and video without a card. The memory controller takes DDR3 at 1066 MT/s.

The small step over the G640 shows in single thread office tasks that never use turbo. Towers pair it with B75 or H77 boards and an SSD for a direct response. The LGA, PGA and BGA: CPU package types explained guide places this LGA desktop part against mobile forms.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The Pentium G645 fits LGA 1155 in FCLGA1155 form. Both 6 series and 7 series boards boot Sandy Bridge directly, so no special BIOS is needed. H61, B75, H77, Z77 and business sets all accept the chip.

At 65 W any desktop LGA 1155 board covers power and cooling. The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide covers the chipset split.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

Memory support is DDR3-1066, two channels, up to 32 GB. Two DIMMs help the shared graphics block. ECC is not supported.

PCI Express is 16 lanes from the CPU at PCIe 2.0. Office builds usually skip a card, since integrated graphics already drive two displays.

Cooling is the 65 W stock pattern with push pins on 75 × 75 mm spacing. Fixed clocks keep heat predictable.

Upgrade paths

On LGA 1155 the Pentium G645 can step to Core i3 parts with Hyper-Threading or quad i5 and i7 chips on the same board. Ivy models need a current BIOS, while Sandy models drop in directly. Memory and storage carry over. A low power comparison is Intel Pentium G645T.

A platform move to LGA 1200 or newer needs a new board and DDR4 RAM. Keep the G645 board for office spares.

Frequently asked questions

What socket does the Intel Pentium G645 use?

It uses LGA 1155. Both 6 series and 7 series boards boot it directly.

How is the Pentium G645 different from the G640?

Base is 2.9 GHz instead of 2.8 GHz. Cache, power and graphics match.

What memory does the Pentium G645 use?

DDR3-1066, two channels, up to 32 GB.

Is the Pentium G645 unlocked?

No. The multiplier is locked.
