What the Core i3-7300 is
The Core i3-7300 is a two core, four thread desktop processor from Kaby Lake. It launched in January 2017 with a fixed 4.0 GHz at 51 W. Two cores with Hyper-Threading plus 4 MB cache cover office towers where high clocks and cache help responsive work.
Four megabytes of Smart Cache feed multitasking with office suites. The fixed 4.0 GHz gives strong single thread pace for its year. Fifty one watts fit stock tower cooling.
HD Graphics 630 from 350 MHz to 1150 MHz drives office monitors with 4K output. The higher graphics burst over the 7100 helps 4K signs. Hardware decode keeps streaming smooth.
On 14 nm the 7300 sits above the 7100 on clocks, cache and graphics burst. Offices pick it for reception PCs that stay responsive under load. Locked multiplier keeps it stock.
Socket and motherboard compatibility
The 7300 fits LGA 1151 revision 1 only. Two hundred series boards accept it natively, while 100 series may need a BIOS update. Three hundred series boards never support it.
The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide covers board matching. B250 towers pair it with DDR4 for office fleets.
The Core i3-7320 on the same socket adds 100 MHz. The low power 7300T is the 35 W alternative for thin cases.
Memory, PCIe and cooling
DDR4-2133/2400 or DDR3L up to 64 GB in two channels is the memory design. Dual channel DDR4-2400 helps graphics most. SSDs decide boot pace.
Sixteen PCIe 3.0 lanes support graphics or NVMe storage. Office builds use integrated output for two displays. Stock 51 W cooling covers the fixed clock.
The 75 mm pattern shares coolers with LGA 1155, 1150 and LGA 1200. Case airflow decides sustained pace.
Upgrade paths
On the same socket Core i3-7350K adds tuning, while Core i5-7400 brings four cores. Both reuse board and DDR4.
Past revision 1 a new board is needed. Memory and SSD upgrades usually come first.
