What the Atom E620T is

The Intel Atom E620T is the 600 MHz industrial member of the Tunnel Creek stack on BGA 676. It runs one Bonnell core with Hyper-Threading for two threads at 600 MHz with no turbo, backed by 512 KB of L2 cache. Power is rated at 3.3 W on a 45 nm process in a 22 × 22 mm package. Intel lists September 14, 2010 as the launch date with industrial temperature range of minus 40 to 85 C.

At 600 MHz and 3.3 W it suits sensors, simple HMIs and vehicle terminals in harsh cabinets. The T suffix marks the industrial range part, while the E620 is the commercial 0 to 70 C version at identical clocks and power. GMA600 graphics at 320 MHz cover basic displays.

Memory is single-channel DDR2 up to DDR2-800 with up to 2 GB fixed per board, with 4 PCIe x1 lanes on the SoC.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The Atom E620T is soldered to the board in BGA 676 and cannot be replaced. Board replacement is the only upgrade path.

Compatibility depends on firmware with the B0 stepping. The CPU cooler compatibility by socket guide covers soldered rules.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

Memory is single-channel DDR2 up to DDR2-800 with up to 2 GB, fixed per board. ECC is not part of this SKU.

Expansion comes from 4 PCIe x1 lanes plus GMA600 display outputs, HD audio and SPI.

Cooling has no retail answer. The 3.3 W envelope suits passive spreaders with the industrial rating.

Upgrade paths

There is no CPU upgrade path on BGA 676 because the chip is soldered. A 1 GHz E640T fits the same package where the vendor offers that board.

Frequently asked questions

What socket does the Intel Atom E620T use?

BGA 676 (FC-BGA 676), the soldered 676-ball package. The chip cannot be removed.

How are the cores of the E620T arranged?

One Bonnell core with Hyper-Threading for two threads at 600 MHz, with 512 KB of L2 cache.

What memory does the E620T need?

DDR2 single channel up to DDR2-800 with up to 2 GB, fixed per board.

What does the T suffix mean?

The T suffix marks minus 40 to 85 C industrial range. The E620 is the commercial version at the same clocks and power.
