LGA 7529 socket: CPUs, chipsets and cooler fit
LGA 7529 is Intel's large server socket for Sierra Forest, Granite Rapids and Clearwater Forest Xeon processors. It is a land grid array socket with 7,529 contacts on the Birch Stream platform. Intel launched it in September 2024 with the Granite Rapids 6900P series.

Overview
The socket pairs 12 channels of DDR5 memory with single and dual socket boards for the densest hosts. Against the mainstream LGA 4710 with 8 channels, LGA 7529 serves cloud and HPC nodes where core count and memory bandwidth per rack decide buys.
Clearwater Forest extends the socket to E-core counts from 144 to 288 cores in 2026. Board and processor choice stay paired through the vendor support list.
Processor generations
| Codename | Marketing name | Years | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Granite Rapids | Xeon 6900P series | 2024 | P-core processors up to 128 cores, launched in September 2024. |
| Sierra Forest | Xeon 6700E series | 2024 | E-core processors for dense cloud workloads on the same socket. |
| Clearwater Forest | Xeon 6900E+ series | 2026 | E-core processors on Intel 18A, including the 144 to 288 core models in this batch. Launched in 2026. |
Memory layout
Each LGA 7529 processor carries 12 channels of DDR5 memory. Population rules, maximum speeds and capacity per socket follow the board manual and the processor generation. Twelve channels feed the 128-core Granite Rapids and 288-core Clearwater Forest parts where 8 channels would starve the cores.
Memory capacity per rack is the reason for the big socket. Check the vendor list for qualified DIMM types per board and BIOS before ordering.
PCIe and expansion
LGA 7529 boards wire PCIe 5.0 lanes to slots, NVMe bays and networking per the board block diagram. Lane counts and bifurcation options vary by board, so expansion planning starts from the exact board rather than the socket name.
Dual-socket boards cover virtualization and HPC hosts. Single-socket boards suit storage and edge servers that need memory capacity without a second processor.
