What the Core i3-9100TE is

The Core i3-9100TE is a four core, four thread embedded processor from Coffee Lake. It launched in the second quarter of 2019 with a 2.2 GHz base and up to 3.2 GHz boost at 35 W. The TE suffix marks embedded broad market supply with extended availability.

Six megabytes of Smart Cache back control software and thin clients. There is no Hyper-Threading, so four threads do all the work. The 35 W envelope fits compact industrial chassis with modest cooling.

UHD Graphics 630 drive operator displays without a card. ECC memory support guards long production shifts. Machine builders pick TE parts for years of stable supply rather than peak clocks.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The 9100TE fits LGA 1151 on embedded Q370 and H310 class boards with 35 W validation. Standard desktop 300 series boards can also post the chip, since the socket and Coffee Lake support match. Embedded validation adds temperature testing beyond consumer boards.

ECC needs a board with UDIMM ECC support; consumer boards run the chip without correction. Compact industrial cases with 35 W heatsinks hold sustained clocks. Boards for LGA 1150 are a generation behind and incompatible.

The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide explains chipset roles for embedded buyers choosing between Q370 and H310.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

DDR4-2400 ECC in two channels up to 64 GB is the rated embedded memory. Industrial SODIMM variants appear on compact boards. ECC stays active for 24 hour duty.

Sixteen PCIe 3.0 lanes split for capture cards, NICs and NVMe per board design. Machine vision systems dedicate lanes to frame grabbers. Chipset lanes cover fieldbus and storage.

The 75 mm LGA 1151 pattern matches LGA 1156 through LGA 1200 coolers for service spares. Embedded 35 W blocks run quietly in cabinets. See the CPU cooler compatibility by socket guide for pattern details.

Upgrade paths

Inside embedded LGA 1151 the i3-9100E raises clocks at 65 W where cooling allows, while i5 embedded parts add cores. Both keep the board family with firmware checks.

Newer embedded platforms on LGA 1200 bring DDR4-2933 and Comet Lake cores but need requalification. Many 9100TE lines stay in service with storage refreshes.
