What the Core 2 Duo U7500 is

The Intel Core 2 Duo U7500 is a 1.073 GHz ultra-low-voltage mobile dual core from February 27, 2008. It runs two Core cores at 1.073 GHz with no turbo, so 2 cores give 2 threads. Cache is 2 MB of shared L2 on a 65 nm process with 293 million transistors. Power is rated at 10 W on Socket P.

The U7500 brings Core 2 speed to thin notebooks, part SLV3X at 0.975 V with a locked 8x multiplier on a 533 MT/s bus, with VT-x virtualization. The die measures 111 mm². It exists because notebook makers wanted full Core 2 features in ultraportables that could not cool 35 W parts.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The U7500 fits Socket P notebooks with DDR2 memory and a BIOS that lists ultra-low-voltage Merom parts. It does not fit Socket M boards despite the shared 478 pins. Display comes from the notebook board graphics. The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide covers pairing rules.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

Memory is DDR2 through the board chipset in two channels.

A 533 MT/s front side bus ties the CPU to the mobile chipset. PCIe slots and board graphics hang off the chipset.

Cooling is the notebook vendor heat pipe assembly for the exact chassis, with Enhanced SpeedStep trimming clocks and voltage on battery.

Upgrade paths

On Socket P the upgrade is the Intel Core 2 Duo U7700 at 1.333 GHz within the same 10 W class, or a standard-voltage Merom where the chassis cools 35 W. The Intel Core 2 Solo ULV SU3300 is the Penryn-era single-core successor on BGA. A swap must stay within the thermal design the chassis was qualified for.
