What the Atom Z600 is

The Intel Atom Z600 is the 1.2 GHz member of the Lincroft Moorestown platform on BGA 518. It runs one Bonnell core with Hyper-Threading for two threads at 1.2 GHz, backed by 512 KB of L2 cache. Power is rated at 1.3 W on a 45 nm process in a 13.8 × 13.8 mm package. Intel lists May 4, 2010 as the launch date.

Lincroft is a complete system on a chip with the memory controller, display controller and GMA600 graphics on die, paired with the Langwell companion over DMI and display buses. The Z600 carries GMA600 at 200 MHz for handheld displays. Against the 800 MHz Z610 it leads in single threaded speed at the same 1.3 W.

Memory is single-channel LPDDR-400 fixed per design, which keeps idle power low for phones.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The Atom Z600 is soldered to the board in BGA 518 and cannot be replaced. Handheld repair means board replacement.

The SoC talks to the Langwell companion chip over DMI, so firmware must match the exact sSpec stepping. The CPU cooler compatibility by socket guide covers soldered rules.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

Memory is single-channel LPDDR-400 on the Z600. The board fixes the memory, so check the vendor design.

There is no PCIe from the CPU. Board I/O comes from the Langwell companion chip.

Cooling is passive by design. The 1.3 W envelope needs no fan, only a spreader and case airflow.

Upgrade paths

There is no CPU upgrade path on BGA 518 because the chip is soldered. A 1.6 GHz Z615 fits the same package class where the vendor offers that design.

Frequently asked questions
